This week I have learned much about The Holy Ghost and how the Holy Ghost speaks to me personally. Most times it is very hard to recognize if something is a prompting from the Holy Ghost or if you are simply have a thought. Some of the scriptures in 1 Corinthians are helping me to understand the spirit better and strive to recognize it more in my life. In 1 Corinthians 1 chapters 2 and 3, Paul talks a lot about the Holy Ghost and growing spiritually.
In chapter 2:5, Paul talks about how our faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. Then in verse 11, he says "For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. Paul teaches us here that we must learn to recognize the spirit to know the things of God.(The spiritual things that help us to progress and be happy in this life)
Paul then teaches us that we must throw away our natural man tendencies(which would be thinking mostly of ourselves and what we need, putting things of the world before God and our family) to receive and discern the spiritual things of God. Chapter 20:14- "But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned."
A scripture in Chapter 3:2 goes right along with this last scripture. It reads- "I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able."
These scriptures teach me that if we are to progress spiritually and want to be able to recognize the Holy Ghost in out lives, we must throw aside out natural man tendencies(forget of ourselves, serve others) and prepare ourselves spiritually to be able to bear the learning and understanding God wants to give to us. I am grateful for the scriptures and the truths found therein. I hope to work on forgetting more of myself and serving others and doing the everyday things I need to, to have the spirit in my life and to recognize the promptings of the spirit more in my life.
Thanks for listening to my long posts on the scriptures! ha Once I start writing, it is hard to stop. I am so grateful for the scriptures and the truth and guidance they give me in my life, and to all. Have a wonderful weekend and week!
